Essential guidance on dilapidations claims at the end of tenancy

Dilapidations claims can be costly and time-consuming for both the landlord and tenant, and a source of grave contention between the two parties. The legislation surrounding dilapidations has evolved over a long period of time and is notoriously complicated. The new Guide to Dilapidations aims to provide a better understanding of this complex issue.

Written by Andrew Olins, this guide is designed to equip the commercial landlord and the business tenant with the necessary knowledge and understanding to resolve a claim for terminal dilapidations. Written in Workplace Law's jargon-free, plain-English style, this downloadable ebook is an indispensable resource for all users and owners of commercial buildings.

The reader is offered practical advice on what to do if faced with a claim for dilapidations, whether from the point of view of a landlord or tenant, and a sample Schedule of Dilapidations is included to highlight the process of a dilapidations claim. Discussion of a real-life dilapidations case is also included, to show how theory is put into practice.

About the author

Andrew Olins is a solicitor in private practice and partner in IBB solicitors, specialising in real estate litigation. Andrew has published various articles in legal journals, particularly on landlord and tenant matters. He is a Professor of Land Law at Brunel University where he tutors part-time, and is also a member of the Property Litigation Association and the RICS Dilapidations Forum.

This guide is essential reading for all landlords and tenants, facilities managers, health and safety managers and building surveyors.
