The presence of a contractor can very often introduce an additional level of fire hazard and risk, simply because of the work they do. It is therefore essential that their actions are properly managed and monitored, especially in large organisations.  

Procedures for controlling and managing contractors are an essential part of a good Fire Safety Management System (FSMS). This white paper discusses:

  • employing organisation’s responsibilities;
  • procedural requirements for managing and controlling contractors (including the provision that fire safety must have a clear priority in the tender and selection process);
  • information and guidance that such a procedure should contain; and
  • importance of creating and maintaining an Approved Contractors List – ACL.
