One in three construction sites puts lives at risk

This startling figure comes after the HSE carried out over 1,500 inspections as part of its rolling inspection programme, resulting in enforcement action on 426 occasions in just two months during June and July 2007.

In London alone 179 sites were visited, resulting in 60 prohibition notices being served and work being halted immediately until corrective action was taken. In addition six improvement notices were served, requiring remedial action to be taken.
