The CIPD Foundation Certificate in Learning and Development Practice is a level 3 accredited training course produced by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). This highly practical course provides a firm foundation in the fundamentals of learning and development and is a natural study route towards undertaking the CIPD's new Advanced Level qualifications. It will help you develop practical, relevant skills and, above all, will give you the confidence to be more effective at work.

The course structure is intended to be more easily accessible to students and will provide a comprehensive grounding of the training cycle. The course is designed for practitioners looking to acquire a means of professional recognition in the field of learning and development.

About the Certificate in Learning and Development Practice course

Workplace Law's fast-track Certificate in Learning and Development Practice (CLDP) courses takes between 15 and 20 weeks to complete. A combination of e-learning and intensive classroom study in London leaves you free to study when you want, but with plenty of opportunity to interact with our expert tutors and fellow students during our core residential sessions. What's more, the flexible course programme cuts the cost of travelling and saves your company money by reducing the time you spend away from the workplace.

The course will help you:

  • gain an in-depth understanding of L&D as a function;
  • understand how to implement best practice in L&D;
  • develop practical skills in L&D in identifying, delivering and evaluating training interventions;
  • understand and apply the theory and practice of learning needs analysis; and
  • develop skills in coaching.

Course structure

The Certificate in Learning and Development Practice course is foundation level standard, at an equivalent level to NVQ/SVQ Level 3, and requires a completed total of 28 credits.

These credits are made up of the following:

Core modules (10 credits)

  • Understanding Organisations and the Role of Human Resources
  • Recording, Analysing and Using Human Resources Information
  • Developing Yourself as an Effective Human Resources Practitiliner

Additional modules (12 credits)

  • Delivering learning and development activities
  • Undertaking a learning needs analysis
  • Developing coaching skills for the workplace

Optional modules (6 credits per module)

Choose one of the following:

  • Supporting good practice in managing employment relations
  • Resourcing talent
  • Supporting good practice in performance and reward management

Who is the CLDP course for?

  • Those new to L&D.
  • People interested in a move into L&D.
  • Employees or independent consultants within the field of L&D.
  • Line managers who are involved in L&D activities.

How is it assessed?

The CLDP course is an assessment-based qualification and the methods of assessment will include skills assessments, written assessments, online case studies and quizzes. The CLDP course is split between class based study and web-based e-learning. Students can start on the core modules and then work through a number of additional modules based on their interests with access to tutors throughout their study on this course.

Prerequisites

You don't need any previous experience to take CLDP courses; however, some L&D knowledge or experience would be beneficial. You will also need an email address and access to the internet. You will be required to take part in a telephone interview prior to the start of the course.

CIPD membership

Students of the Foundation Certificate are required to gain student membership of the CIPD. On completion of the CLDP course you will have been provided with the knowledge required for the Associate professional level of membership.
