How well equipped is your organisation to deal with a serious accident or fatality at work? If you were subject to an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive or the police, how would you manage the interview process? Do you, and your board of directors, understand the importance of recently introduced corporate manslaughter legislation?

The first company to be prosecuted under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2008, Cotswold Geotechnical Holdings Ltd, was fined £385,000 – representing 116% of the company’s annual turnover. This landmark ruling has implications for all businesses across the UK. Directors and senior executives need to act now if they want to avoid the heavy penalties and bad publicity that come from cases like this.

This one-day Corporate Health and Safety Briefing has been specially designed to help directors and senior managers comply with health and safety legislation and to ensure that they discharge their duty of care towards employees, contractors and members of the public.

The course covers the syllabus of IOSH Directing Safely, and can be accredited by IOSH, subject to completion of a short practical assignment and brief written examination.*

In addition, this special briefing session updates delegates on the latest developments in health and safety law and practice, including the latest information on corporate manslaughter legislation and the IoD/HSE guidance on directors and board members’ involvement in safety leadership.

  • "The course was excellent. It was delivered at the right pace and level. The trainer had excellent knowledge and delivered the course in a very good way."
  • I found the briefing very useful in that it covered a number of issues that directly affected my current role and provided the update in a manner that was both understandable and easy to translate into the workplace where relevant. The important part for me was to be confident that my knowledge of the subject in particular in relation to case law was as up to date as it could be.
