The CDM Regulations One Day Workshop is designed to help you find out everything you need to know about the CDM Regulations and includes practical guidance from our expert course tutor, who has real world experience as a CDM Coordinator.

The revised Construction (Design and Management) Regulations came into force in April 2007, bringing health and safety implications for all organisations. CDM must now be applied to every construction project, regardless of size or timescale.

The CDM Regulations are aimed at improving the overall management and coordination of health, safety and welfare throughout all stages of a construction project to reduce the large number of serious and fatal accidents and cases of ill health that happen every year in the construction industry.

The CDM Regulations Workshop will look in detail at the legislative requirements as well as the application of the accompanying CDM Approved Code of Practice, which incorporates the roles and responsibilities of each duty-holder who may be held accountable for an accident on a construction project, namely the:

  • Client;
  • Designer;
  • Principal Contractor;
  • CDM Coordinator; and
  • Contractor.

This workshop will involve syndicate exercises using case studies so that typical problems associated with the management of CDM can be discussed.

Course programme

  • The background to the CDM Regulations.
  • The five duty-holders and their responsibilities – Client, Designer, CDM Coordinator, Principal Contractor and Contractor.
  • Pre-construction information requirements.
  • Health and safety in relation to the project lifecycle.
  • Practical implementation of the revised Approved Code of Practice.

Why train with Workplace Law?

  • Our course tutor offers a wealth of knowledge and experience, specifically as a CDM Coordinator, providing practical guidance and in-depth case studies.
  • The Workplace Law Executive Centre, our unique training centre in Clerkenwell, London, offers an enhanced learning experience using state of the art technology.
  • In-house courses can be customised to include specific procedures and policies.

All of our consultants meet the competency requirements for a CDMC, laid out within the CDM Approved Code of Practice:

  • Accredited with the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) as a competent organisation for the delivery of the CDMC.
  • Over ten years’ experience of delivering construction-related health and safety services, including the CDMC since its conception in 2007.
  • Experience of working with a broad range of clients and sectors on complex multi-million pound projects.
  • Workplace Law has a delivery process that establishes an auditable trail to demonstrate that duty-holders have fulfilled their obligations. Workplace Law can provide this reassurance through the use of records, meeting minutes, progress reports and information inventories.
  • In-depth knowledge of the CDM Regulations, having been involved with advising and writing technical information for the BIFM.
  • Multi-disciplined construction professionals, which means that we can advise and assist in more than one area of health and safety.

Benefits

  • This workshop will help you to comply with the Regulations and keep up to date with the latest changes, assisting you in implementing good CDM management, eliminating common pitfalls and making you better prepared to manage contractors.
  • Understanding the key aims of the CDM Regulations will enable all duty-holders to more effectively plan and manage projects, identify and eliminate risks at the design and planning stage, target efforts in terms of health and safety and discourage unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • As well as providing training, we can also act as a CDM Coordinator and provide other support services, meaning you can use one company for all your health and safety requirements – saving you time, money and confusion.
