This half-day course provides information on everything you need to know about recently updated asbestos guidance with practical guidance from our expert course tutor.

From January 2010, a new HSE guidance document, Asbestos: The Survey Guide (HSG 264), replaced MDHS 100. It has implications for all duty-holders and organisations throughout the UK regarding the management of asbestos in their buildings.

All UK organisations will need to ensure that they comply with the updated guidance and this course identifies the key areas of change, as well as providing you with the relevant information that you need to ensure compliance.

Emphasis will be placed on the main legislation updates that affect your organisation, with particular regard to the following responsibilities for the duty-holder:

  • The selection of an appointed person;
  • Responsibility of the duty-holder to check the competency of an asbestos surveyor;
  • Responsibility of the duty-holder to develop the survey results into a Management Plan;
  • Better planning of the survey and its objectives; and
  • Extra guidance on carrying out invasive surveys prior to demolition or refurbishment.

These changes mean that there is more responsibility than ever on the duty-holder; for the first time one must identify an ‘appointed person’ as well as carry out quality checks on the surveying company and its work.

This is an essential event for duty-holders, nominated appointed persons, those who commission asbestos surveys and those responsible for asbestos during building alterations or CDM work.
