I agree. Oxford Wordfinder gives 14 versions of man used as a noun and 5 as a verb many of which do not refer to the male sex. Imagine trying to change words like mankind, Renaissance Man, Piltdown Man, clergyman, Dutchman and phrases like 'man the pumps', 'have not caught their man'. I enjoy this one: 'manned herself for the task'

Although this site is for employers and managers, I believe that employers and managers can benefit hugely by the opinions of employees. If these opinions are expressed in the same thread rather than on a different site or thread the discussion would be much easier to follow. What about it Workplace Law?

I agree that Philip is being pedantic and, in fact, he is wrong. The Oxford dictionary refers to both concrete mixers and cement mixers as the same thing and even to a mortar mixer. Wikipedia also refers to both as the same thing although a cement mixer is also an alcoholic beverage. The manufacturers of this equipment also use both terms to describe the equipment.
