John, You seem to believe it okay that people may not accept or feel relaxed about working with "gay" (by which I presume you mean LGBT) people. What about people who feel uncomfortable working with people of a different race, or deaf people or people in wheelchairs; people with learning difficulties, Jews, Christians, Muslims.
I expect you would draw the line somewhere here, which leads me to the next question; with whom can I feel uncomfortable and with whom can I not? In other words can we have a hierarchy of discrimination whereby some groups must not be discriminated against but others may if you have good (religious?) grounds for doing so?
The answer is clearly no and as a gay man in the workplace I want a lot more than protection against abuse; I want 100% equality and the same respect accorded to everyone else. I and the rest of the LGBT community and people who care will achieve this by being visible and open in all spheres of life. That way we will change the way people think.
As for people who think "being gay is a sin", I AM gay: I was not given a choice. Therefore they are bigots, wheter they think they are or not!
