Whilst it is galling to watch the developing world continue to emit CO2 in vast quantities the developed world has had the luxury of going through their industrial revolutions without criticism and it is encumbent on them to help the developing world pass through their phase of likewise development responsibly.
Speaking from personal experience of having lived in India where the concept of recycling was intrinsic in society, it is the greed of globalisation which has made these societies believe that the old way of doing things is inferior and plastics etc. are better/more sophisticated than say palm leaves.
So instead of apportioning blame there is a global responsibility to ensure this doesn't get out of hand.

If there is a vacancy, is the company legally obliged to advertise and consider candidates internally before recruiting externally.

The increasing case law concerning the interpretation of the procedural steps of the Statutory Grievance Procedure itself does the system no favours and has, if anything added to the confusion when dealing with emploment issues.

Could the duration of employment in one place lead to an implied contract? Say a year or more?

1. Are probaton/trial periods legal? and if an employee has not performed in accordance with the conditions of employment during this period can they be dismissed without reprisal?
2. What is the procedure to be followed in the dismissal of underperforming employees as it is not strictly a disciplinary matter?

I read with interest the discussion on Women returning to work from Maternity leave on a part-time basis. Would one need to then draw up a new Contract of Employment?
