SCL Group is approved by both the ECA and the NICEIC. To legally carry out periodic inspection and testing, the engineer must be 'competent', and the certification provided should show all the information required by BS7671: Guidance Note 3. This information is provided on both NICEIC and ECA standard certificates which are available only to approved contractors. Competency of an engineer can be easily demonstrated as the individual will hold a City & Guilds 2391 qualification which ensures that they have been properly trained. It is worth noting that this is an additional qualification over and above those of a standard electrician. Whilst it is not a legal requirement to use a contractor who is recognised by either of the above bodies, your Insurance Company may insist that you use such a company. Both the NICEIC and the ECA regularly audit the competency of their members to ensure that works meet with the requirements of the relevant electrical regulations and this saves them the trouble of doing it themselves.
