Ministry of Defence have similar history .This nightmare led me to study employment law to protect myself while I was recovering from cancer some time ago. Perhaps the law will become explicit to prevent ambiguity enabling recurrence across the world.

Dress codes can be positive in being prescriptive. Classical organisations would be those that favour this approach. As customers it can also be reassuring to know who to ask?
Having sons with size 16 adult feet size, it has saved them money when employers provide clothes and shoes. It also takes away debate about "what shall I wear today?"
As a child when I got lost i was told "look for a person in uniform and they will help" - perhaps standard uniform could come with a "responsibility" warning because of this perception.

There has been a legal case within the last two years where a school in Fullwood Winchester was able to stop a telephone company erecting a mast at a near by petrol garage as it was proven to be hazardous.
A primary school and houses in Abbey Meads N Swindon is built within the shadow of pylons. Perhaps Swindon BC would have specific environmental survey data to answer your question Craig.

This is still happening in Feb 2008. The protection of employees with under 12 months service against this is the weakness. Hopefully the law will include employees from day one, to prevent these ongoing recurrences.
