If an employee is unable to get to work when there is a tube and/or train strike would they still get paid for the day?

If you are planning to make a deduction from wages you will need to ensure it is authorised by the employee's contract of employment. This should be agreed to in writing by the employee before any deductions are made.
An employee may seek redress for unlawful deduction from wages by presenting a complaint to an Employment Tribunal regardless of length of service.

You can also look at your policies to see what flexibility you have.
You may be able to treat the situation as you do with inclement weather in the winter when the public transport cannot run.
Or you can offer employees the option of taking holiday, time off in lieu, unpaid leave, working from home etc.
Staff should make all efforts to come into work by alternative means of transport and you may be prepared to pay the full day even if they are late in.
