In most organisations that I have worked with this(if deliberate) would be classed as Gross Misconduct.

Under Section 23 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and Part 3 Section 56 of the Fire (Scotland) act and Section 22 of the Regulations made under it, employees have a duty to comply with all fire safety requirements. This would include not tampering with the fire alarm.

It is a criminal offence and a serious disciplinary matter to interfere with
any fire safety equipment (including smoke alarms, extinguishers and door closers)

Thanks, but I am thinking more about the Hotel guest who tampers with a smoke head in a bedroom or alike. Is there any specific regulation that applies that could be sited to a guest directly.
