At last fire safety breaches taken seriously. How long did he serve?

Sadly, it's one of the least regarded regulations.
I think it's a case of 'out of sight - out of mind' and it's often thought of as a 'soft service'. Nothing could be further from the truth.
I've witnessed a fire, (albeit a smaller fire), but the rate at which it took hold was frightening and the density of the smoke was enough to warrant an emergency vsit from the Brigade.
Perhaps we beginning to move into the 19th Century after all! You never know, one of these years we may even reach the dizzy heights of the Industrial Revolution.
It's like a real life, H.G. Wells' The Time Machine at times.

It is indeed about time that owners took responsability for their workplace/employees safety.
As David Robinson indicates it is a fact of life that if you can get away with poor standards then you will, mainly, because it will cause you a cost that is difficult to justify.
That is, until something hapens and the enforcing authority takes action as in this case.
Plainly self regulation did not work and how many other small and medium buisnesses know anything about the Workplace Regulations relative to fire safety??
