The CBI - which represents employers' interests - has criticised the Code as being too confusing. John Cridland, CBI Deputy Director-General, said: "Companies want clear guidance on monitoring so they can strike the difficult balance between protecting privacy and preventing abuse of the system.
"This code is now shorter and less prescriptive, but it remains confusing because there is no clear definition of what monitoring is. It is crucial for business to know where monitoring ends and unwarranted intrusion begins."
