What is the rule if you get clamped in the street. Situation:
Car is parked in permit holders bay with a pay and display ticket that runs out at 11.00am. Pay and Display parking should only be on the other side of the street.
A wheel clamp has been placed on the car at 10.50am. Do I have a right to appeal against this as it was a ligitimate mistake? There are pay and display machines on both sides of the street and the signs are small.

This is not an infrequent occurance and the response will depend upon the signage. If the sign stated "Permit Holders Only" (or words to that effect) and was placed in plain view of someone driving into that space, it will be accepted by the court that it was seen and understood, hence you suffer the consequences.
If for any reason the notice was not in plain site or you had some other reason to believe it was ok to park there (permit holder said you could) then you may have an argument.
