If Ian is the Data Controller for his company then they must have their own Data Control
Policy Statement and procedures for handling company information relating to living individuals. If the shredding is carried out in-house this can be incorporated within this Policy. However, if the company uses a contractor (Data Processor) they should have a formal written contract under priciple 7 of the DATA PROTECTION ACT 1998.
