Could you please give advice on where I can find out about the changes and new requirements for 30 compressions in Emergency Resuscitationinstead of 15? The Red Cross are implementing this in August this year.

Hi Laura
A good source of further information is The Resuscitation Council (UK) which aims to ?facilitate education of both lay and healthcare professional members of the population in the most effective methods of resuscitation appropriate to their needs?. http://www.resus.org.uk
I?m told that the Red Cross have taken a while to implement these changes, and that many First Aid trainers (including ours) are already implementing the much easier guidelines, of which the change from 15 to 30 compressions is a part.
However, it?s important to stress that the old method of resuscitation is not incorrect and employees should be reminded that doing something is always much better than doing nothing. It always takes a period of time before all first aiders are operating to any new guidelines.
I hope this information is helpful.
If you are interested in in-house first aid training, we offer a First Aid Appointed Persons course (http://www.workplacelaw.net/my/download.php?download_id=332 for more details) and First Aid at Work (http://www.workplacelaw.net/my/download.php?download_id=333 for more details). Feel free to contact your Account Manager Holly James if this is of interest 01223 431061.
