A Hospital Trust Safety Officer would have taken all the 2.5 days a week allocated and that he probably covers more than one site in fact I am surprised that to do a good job he does not need full time hours.
I am a manager and a jobshare union H & S Officer ; we share the post as we have so many meetings (some booked for the same time) to attend and Inspections to carry out along with accident investigation and everything else one person cannot do it alone. We have to cover 4 sites across East London and a lot of time is spent travelling.
I was given extra time for the Training and I feel that the Trust deserved to lose.
H & S Reps are there for everyone's benefit and over the years I suspect this rep has probably helped save the trust by pointing out the errors and yet they cannot see that if he is properly trained it can only be to their advantage.
Shame on you. With issues in the NHS today regarding cleanliness, stress on staff due to shortages and violence towards them union H & S Reps are needed more than ever. As a manager I can see the use of reps who often know more than the managers and can point us in the right direction before we make blunders that could well cause us our jobs/lives
