As a Facilities Manager I am sick and tired of coming across so called senior managers who are on paper responcible for Health & Safety but in reality they know absolutly nothing.
I cover for Facilities Managers who are off on long term sick leave, and like the SAS I am often dropped in what I can only describe as a war zone, where I am faced with everything from very little H&S documentation and awareness to some company's that are performing beyond the required standards.
The current locartion I cannot tell you or I would have to kill you, but serously, I have a so Facilities manager who has just returned from 8 months sick leave and who knows as much about facilities mangement as the pencil on my desk, and his boss who thought until I arrived that he was doing a great job, knows even less. and both of these people are responcible for over 700 people?
I am due to leave soon to be dropped elsewhere, but I can't be the only one who comes across this kind of miss management, and the so called managers who everyday are not doing what is required of them.
I have to write a report when I leave which my company keep to protect me and them, against any Health & safety issues that were brought to their attention whilst I was there.
I hope to see the day when a Facilities Manager is in his or her job because of what they know, and not because of who they know? But I doubt it.
