We have recently had an office move, and a desk has been placed in front of a door to another office. There is approx. 1.5 metres behind the desk - Is this enough? Is there any legislation regarding siting of desks directly in front of doors? (This would be the main fire exit door should the situation arise)

Fire Precautions Act. You can not obstruct a reconised fire exit with anything espically a desk, not knowing the layout of your office it is impossible to say, how this has come about?
There must be a clear minimum 1.5m path to the door without having to go around a maze of desks to get there. I know that floor space is expensive but doing things like this.
I assume that your company doesn't have a fire officer or safety officer for that matter, if you are in any doubt contact your local fire officer who can come and visit and advise you.

I think this would fail the test in that: "are escape routes clear?" Quite clearly not, even more so if there is a colleague sitting behind desk.
Due to the office move I would have thought your fire risk assessment required an update.

the Fire Precautions Act 1971 has been repealed. If your workplace is in England & Wales you are now subject to the Regulatory Reform Order (Fire Safety) and if you are In Scotland the Fire(Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 apply.
There are plenty of guides published on what the acceptable fire safety standards are under this legislation.
