Finally someone has noticed people / business resent being constantly whacked with a big stick and perhaps 'joined-up-thinking', 'partnering', being a good neighbour or whatever latest "relationship management" buzz phrase is maybe "conflict resolution" is coming of age and problems might be resolved with a little "solution focus" and positive approval..
Or does "light touch" really mean storm troopers in slippers instead of daisy crushing boots ? Of course AIG (Advise Information & Guidance) will be conditional in that if completely ignored the big stick of "compliance" or approval deprivation should come out if the 'nurturing' and supportive approach fails to achieve a cultural committment to a corporate ethos of safety and well-being for all.
After all CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and a sense of workplace justice fosters a sense of value and belonging promotes wellness and improved productivity that pays healthy dividends.
Approval deprivation on the other hand cascades down to the bottom line where people no longer feel valued, performance falls away along with employee and customer retention increasing risks to sustainability.
Bring back Mary Poppins with her spoon full of sugar to help the medicine go down............ Probably also reduce the number of people self-medicating at the end of the day to unwind from work/life stressors from IT to bad tempers and compliance with ticking the right box regardless of potential misfeasence.
