What is the world coming to ? The answer is dont live above or near retail premises. All the buchers I have ever known always make an early start.

Having suffered the torment of noisy neighbours I know how much proof would be needed to get to this stage.
While it seems mad the tenent must have indeed suffered but Id rahter have a cheerful, albeit noisy, butcher than drunken, violent layabouts to interupt my private life.

Totally agree with Andrew, just like residents around Barton Aerodrome in Manchester complaining about flights in and out - the airfield existed pre 1930, housing after, and most residents even later. Barking, definitely!

I have rented a flat above business premises. I knew about the early starts and possible noisenwhen I rented and to be honest I could never have afforded the quality of premises if this had not been the case.

I did not see the article but can guarantee either the rent or purchase price was much reduced to account for this. So again have your cake and eat it comes to mind.

As for the Manchester Airport, that is the same at Heathrow and Gatwick also many companies have the same problems they have been there for say 70 years and new homes are being built around them. Hey Presto complaints. One example Canvey Island in Essex

I also lved right next to an airport and can vouch that the noise is incredible but as sheena says the rent was much cheaper than anywhere else.
The most annoying thing was that you would be watching a film and right at the end would be a comment or statement that confirmed the identity of the murderer or an explanation of a particular event and you were guaranteed that something would go overhead at that precise moment.

A number of 'Carry On' jokes about his chopper did spring to mind. I did think, however, there is a bit of madness here. I understand that we must be good neighbours to each other and try our best not to be unreasonable but surely a bit of noise after 06:00 is not unreasonable? I realise that the details will revolve around how loud he was but surely the tenant in question is just complaining for the sake of it?

Dave Gill, there's no call for that sort of behaviour. ;-) Don't you realise how high the steaks are in this case? For somebody of your kidney to give the poor butcher a ribbing is completely unnecessary. The honest burgher saw a gap in the market and was just trying to fillet.

Sorry. I'll get my coat...
