Can the DDA and fire safety work together?

    Access and egress for disabled people can sometimes seem hard to reconcile with tightly controlled fire safety; for example, Building Regulations require internal doors held open by electro-magnetic devices to self-close when activated by smoke detectors, but a disabled person may not be able to open a heavy fire door once it has closed.
