After weeks of uncertainty, at the 11th hour the Corporate Manslaughter Bill has been passed, and now awaits Royal Assent. It should become law in April 2008. As previously reported, the Bill has been delayed over the issue of whether the new law should apply to deaths in custody, which would include both police and prison cells. Yesterday (23 July) the Government conceded defeat and published an amendment to extend the scope of the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Bill.
