Engineering firm Amec is facing claims that it discriminated against a job candidate on the basis of his foreign-sounding name.
Civil engineer Qamar Malik told an employment tribunal in Cardiff that he was initially rejected for the job, but offered an interview two days later when he re-applied using a different name, Mr R Lloyd-Hilbert. The ‘made-up second candidate’ was a year older and but less qualified for the £30,000-a-year post.
