The incorrect disposal of waste can lead to a breach under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (EPA) as highlighted by the recent case of P.A.L Carriers Ltd, a commercial removal and clearance company which was fined £24,000 under Section 33(1) (b) for illegally burning office furniture.
The company was disposing of office furniture by openly burning the waste in a metal container. Burning office furniture in this way is classed as an offence under the EPA.
