A man has been awarded £700,000 in compensation after being left disabled and wheelchair-bound as the result of a disease he caught from a parrot at work.
Glyn Atherton was working as an assistant manager at a Focus Do It All store when he caught psittacosis - a lung disease similar to pneumonia. The infected parrot belonged to pet business Petworld, which rented out space at the store.
