Blind cleaner awarded

A blind cleaner has been awarded nearly £4,000 for unfair dismissal but has lost his disability discrimination claim after he claimed he had been allocated duties he could not cope with.

Stephen Thursfield, who worked as a cleaner at the Kingfisher Centre, is blind in one eye and has only 20% vision in the other. He claimed that after his employers lost the cleaning contract to Carisway Facilities Management Ltd he was allocated duties he could not cope with.
