Company’s safety measures did not allow for human error

    A multi-national oil and gas company has been found responsible for the death of an employee following an accident on one of its gas exploration platforms. Ensco Offshore (UK) Ltd, based in Texas, operated the gas exploration platform in Morecambe Bay, and were ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £290,000.

    Russell Bell, who died after falling 100ft into the sea, was working as a deck crew member in May 2003 at the time of his death.
