Third Buncefield report describes mechanical failure

A storage tank was overflowing for more than 40 minutes prior to the Buncefield oil depot explosion last year, a new report reveals.

 The third report on progress with the investigation into the explosions and fire at Buncefield Oil Storage Depot on 11 December 2005, was released today (9 May).

The third progress report makes clear that most of the main facts of the cause of the Buncefield incident are now known with "reasonable confidence".
