Control of asbestos

    Health and safety provisions under two sets of asbestos regulations also come into foce on 1 August 1999. Paragraph 2 of the Control of Asbestos at Work (Amendment) Regulations 1998 (SI 1998 No. 3235) removes the use of respiratory protective equipment from any determination of whether an employee is exposed to asbestos. The Asbestos (Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations 1998 (SI 1998 No. 3233) are also strengthened with the broadining of the HSE's powers to revoke a licence.
