Asbestos Insulation Board - Licences Needed

    Date:
    30 Jun 1999

    Print friendly version

As from 1 August 1999, contractors will require a licence to carry out work on asbestos insulating board. This requirement comes from the Asbestos Licensing (Amendment) Regulations 1998, which come fully into force on 1 August 1999. The extension of the licensing requirements is part of the HSE's campaign to reduce deaths from asbestos related diseases, and reflects research which shows that work with asbestos insulation board is not significantly less dangerous than any other type of asbestos. In line with the requirement to hold a license, work with asbestos insulation board must also be notified 14 days in advance to the HSE before work commences. An up-dated guide to complying with the Asbestos Licensing Regulations is available from HSE Books priced £6.
