City law firm loses flexible working case

    An international law firm has been ordered to pay £40,000 compensation to a female employee for refusing to allow flexible working. The company, Herbert Smith, is to appeal against the employment tribunal decision.

    Michelle Langton was successful in her claims of direct sex discrimination, sex victimisation, unfair dismissal and contraventions of the Part-Time Workers Regulations. Herbert Smith has been instructed to offer a new role within the company.
