EU ministers consider 48-hour opt out and temporary workers rights

    The EU Council of Employment Ministers meets today, and two topics of particular interest to UK employers are on the agenda: the individual 48-hour week opt-out, and the EU Temporary Agency Workers Directive.

    Currently, workers in the UK can choose to opt out of the EU 48-hour week on an individual basis. The UK is arguing to keep this individual right to opt out, but is facing strong opposition from other countries, including Sweden and France.
