Government proposes workplace smoking ban by 2008

    The Government has now published its white paper on public health in England. The key proposals are summarised as follows:

    Smoking will be banned in all enclosed public places (including workplaces) by 2008.
    Smoking will be banned in pubs and restaurants which service food (and also in the bar area in non-food pubs).
    Smoking will be allowed in private clubs where members vote to allow it.
