Scottish workplace smoking ban in force from 2006

    The Scottish Executive yesterday gave its unanimous backing to a ban on smoking in enclosed public places. The proposals will be presented to the Scottish Parliament by Christmas, and would come into effect in early 2006.

    The Health Service (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill would give significant powers to Scottish enforcing authorities: they would be able to demand £100 on-the-spot fines from smokers and could fine businesses up to £2,500. The ban would apply to smoking in enclosed public pla... (322 more words)
