The decision by Liverpool City Council to move towards a workplace-smoking ban has captured
the imagination of the public and national press. The ban would cover restaurants and pubs in
addition to all enclosed workplaces (for example, shops and offices), and would be backed up
with fines of up to £1,000. The council is aiming to get the ban in place within a
year.
