The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, commonly abbreviated to the “RIP” Act, came into force on 2 and 24 October 2000.Interestingly, the origins of this legislation, was based on a challenge brought against the Government under the European Convention on Human Rights, and specifically a complaint that an individual’s Article 8 right to privacy had been infringed, when an employer police authority, monitored an employees private telephone line in the office (more of that later).&nbs...
