
Any waste containing asbestos is classed as a controlled waste under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Asbestos waste is also classified as special waste, under the Special Waste Regulations 1996. These regulations provide more stringent controls over the handling and disposal of the most harmful and dangerous wastes.
