Obtaining insurance cover against acts of terrorism has been virtually impossible for small and medium sized companies since the terrorist attacks against the US two years ago.

However, small firms are now being given the opportunity to obtain terrorism cover under a new scheme organised by the British Insurance Brokers’ Association and Lloyds of London.

Many small businesses, including those involved with festivals and events, have been seeking terrorism liability cover, but have had particular difficulty in obtaining insurance covering members of the public and employees.

Graeme Trudgill, Technical Services Officer at the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA), said, "BIBA have been looking to find solutions for the gap in the market and we are very pleased to now be able to offer terrorism liability insurance to small and medium sized businesses for the first time.

"This should be particularly useful to hotels, conference centres, offices, leisure centres, festival organisers and many other businesses in the UK."
