The Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 came into force on 12 November 2009. Among other things, the Act creates a new apprenticeships structure which, through apprenticeship frameworks, facilitates the creation of apprenticeship agreements between the employer and apprentice. Such an agreement is treated as a contract of service, rather than a contract of apprenticeship, which makes the scheme more attractive to employers.
