The Working Time Regulations 1998 (WTR) came into force on 1 October 1998, implementing the European Working Time Directive (originally 93/104/EC; now 2003/88/EC). The WTR were amended with effect from 1 April 2009, increasing the total statutory holiday entitlement to 5.6 weeks per year (a maximum of 28 days).
