Modern multi-storey buildings, i.e. over 38 floors, have been architecturally designed to incorporate a series of fireproof lifts. These can be arranged in short stages or as an express lift or elevator covering longer distances. The criteria defining a fireproof lift include:
a separate power supply;
internal communication;
a pressurised lift shaft;
smoke detection;
smoke expulsion fans; and
fire wall protection.
