The Met Office has warned that one of the stormiest periods the UK has seen for several years is set to continue this week with heavy rain, strong winds and snow for parts of the country.

The end of the week in particular could see some very stormy conditions across England and Wales.

There is the risk that any part of the UK could see some snow during Tuesday, with the snow likely to settle in on higher ground in parts of central and northern Britain.

Tim Hewson, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, said:

“There is some uncertainty in the forecast for later in the week, but there is potential for a significant storm and we are keeping a close eye on the situation as it develops.

“We’ll be regularly updating our forecasts and warnings, so we advise everyone to stay up to date with the latest situation.”

The HSE has issued guidance for employees working outside:

    • Ensure the personal protective equipment issued is appropriate.
    • Provide mobile facilities for warming up, and encourage the drinking of warm fluids such as soup or hot chocolate.
    • Introduce more frequent rest breaks.
    • Check to see if work can be delayed and undertaken at warmer times of the year without compromising on safety.
    • Educate workers about recognising the early symptoms of cold stress.
