Call up of the Reserved Forces: Update

    In January 2003, the Government made an Order enabling the call up of reservists for possible military action against Iraq. Since then around 6,000 reservists have been called up.

    There are a number of employment law implications for the employer and the employee when an employed reservist is called up and the situation is governed by the Reserve Forces Act 1996 and the Reserve Forces (Safeguard of Employment) Act 1985.
