Agency and temporary workers

There are some 1.5 million temporary employees in the UK, who make up about 6.2% of the workforce.
Only 25% of temporary employees positively choose temporary work over a permanent job and around 36% are temping because they cannot find a permanent job.
Since May 2009, the percentage of temporary employees who are temping because they cannot find a permanent job has increased by about 32%.
