JP Morgan has become the latest high-profile firm to tighten up on what staff wear to work. According to press reports, the bank has sent a list to employees which asks them to shine their shoes and iron their clothes.

This follows moves by comparable firms, including Deutsche Bank, Lehman Brothers, Credit Suisse First Boston and Goldman Sachs, which have also been reported on the Network.

JP Morgan has also placed similar requirements on staff behaviour, according to reports. For example, note taking during meetings must be done using a pen and paper, not a computer.

Dressing down became a more common business practice during the 1990's, but more recently the trend has been towards dressing up. Whatever the requirements or culture at an organsation, it is important to have a formal, written policy which is communicated to staff.
