The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has scrapped its requirement for all EU workers applying to work as a midwife or nurse in the UK to have practised for at least 450 hours in the three years prior to their application.
The NMC has stopped this test after being warned by the European Council that it could be breaking EU law on "freedom of movement" for workers from Europe.
